The 2004 U.S. Ryder Cup Team was chosen on the basis of points compiled by The PGA of America, which players accumulated from Jan. 3, 2002, through the 86th PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis., which concluded Aug. 15, 2004. The top-10 finishers on the points list qualified for the 12-man team, and U.S. Captain Hal Sutton selected the two final players to complete the team on August 16, 2004.

The 2004 U.S. Ryder Cup Team was chosen on the basis of points compiled by The PGA of America, which players accumulated from Jan. 3, 2002, through the 86th PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis., which concluded Aug. 15, 2004. Points were awarded for top-10 finishes at PGA Tour co-sponsored events as follows: 2002 Regular events: 37.5 (1st), 22.5 (2nd), 20 (3rd), 17.5 (4th), 15 (5th), 12.5 (6th), 10 (7th), 7.5 (8th), 5 (9th), 2.5 (10th); 2002 Majors: 150, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10; 2003 Regular events: 75, 45, 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, 5; 2003 Majors: 225, 135, 120, 105, 90, 75, 60, 45, 30, 15; 2004 Regular events: 150, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10; 2004 Majors: 300, 180, 160, 140, 120, 100, 80, 60, 40, 20. The top-10 finishers on the points list qualified for the 12-man team, and U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Hal Sutton selected the two final players to complete the team on August 16, 2004.
