Golfing in Ireland's Ryder Cup Region

Simply number one for Quality, Choice and Value.

Almost a quarter of Ireland's 400 plus golf courses can be found in Ireland's East Coast & Midlands Region, including, of course, the majestic K Club in County Kildare, host to The 2006 Ryder Cup. This traditional golfing region, quite literally surrounding Dublin, is home to some of Europe's best known courses, as well as a whole host of lesser known gems which combine to offer a golfing experience that for quality, choice and value is simply unbeatable!

It is no coincidence that more European Tour events have been played in Ireland's East Coast & Midlands Region than in any other part of the country. The Ryder Cup Venue at The K Club has hosted the Smurfit Kappa European Open for many years, whilst in recent times the prestigious Irish Open has been held at Carton House, Co. Louth Golf Club, Baltray and Druids Glen. Snapping at the heels of the more established courses are precocious youngsters such as The PGA National in Kildare, designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr, and The Heritage in Co. Laois, designed by Seve Ballesteros.

The "big name" venues, however, are only part of the story. Throughout the region you will find courses of stunning quality and character. Take, for example, Glasson near Athlone in Co. Westmeath. The shores of Lough Ree provide the sublime setting for this wonderful championship golf course designed by O'Connor Jnr. Just down the road near Tullamore, Co. Offaly, you will find Esker Hills, another O'Connor design carved from the unique esker landscape created by the retreating glaciers of the ice age more than 10,000 years ago.

Everywhere you travel in the region you will find golf courses of the highest quality. Whether it be traditional parkland courses such as Woodenbridge and Headfort or breathtaking links courses such as Laytown & Bettystown or Seapoint, you will find yourself simply spoilt for choice.

You may be forgiven for thinking that such golfing heaven comes only with a lofty price tag - be pleasantly surprised! If you buy the Kildare Quality Golf Passport, for example, you can play three of the best courses in Europe - The K Club, PGA National and Carton House for just €300! Superb value is to be found throughout the East Coast & Midlands Region, with very reasonable green fees, excellent food and top quality accommodation combining to ensure a memorable experience which will see you returning time and time again.
