STRAFFAN, Ireland -- It is hard to imagine that nearly a year has passed since Colin Montgomerie sank his putt on the emotion-packed 18th green at Oakland Hills Country Club to give Europe an historic nine point victory over the United States, but the countdown to The 36th Ryder Cup began in earnest this week with the now traditional presentation of the 2006 Club Car Ryder Cup Captains' cars.
Club Car has been the Official Golf Car of The Ryder Cup, when played in Europe, for the past ten years, and Club Car will once again play a pivotal role in ensuring the organisational demands of The Ryder Cup are met. The Ryder Cup is always competitively contested with everyone involved in the event from captains, and team members, to media, officials and spectators demanding to know exactly what is happening in the thick of the action.
The presentation of Club Car top of the range Precedent Team Captains' Cars to The 2006 Ryder Cup Captains, Ian Woosnam and Tom Lehman, was made by Phil Tralies, Club Car's President and CEO. The presentation took place during the Smurfit European Open at The K Club, the venue for The 36th Ryder Cup. Phil is a strong proponent of The Ryder Cup and is delighted that Club Car is able to support this prestigious event again, "It is a pleasure and an honour for Club Car and Ingersoll Rand to be able to participate in some small way to the overall success of The Ryder Cup and it is with great pleasure that we award the Precedent Captains' Cars to Mr Woosnam and Mr Lehman."
The Club Car Ryder Cup Team Captains' Cars always take centre stage as the event unfolds, and the global TV footage of past captains including Bernhard Langer, Sam Torrance and Seve Ballesteros sitting in their Club Car Captains' Cars at the back of the green has become a signature moment of The Ryder Cup. Woosnam's and Lehman's Precedent golf cars feature specially embroidered seats sporting the European and US flags respectively.
On each occasion Club Car has been the Official Golf Car and utility vehicle of The Ryder Cup the fleet has grown in line with the event itself. At Oakland Hills in 2004 an incredible 200+ cars were put into operation and the fleet number is expected to rise again at The K Club in 2006.
