Messages congratulating Europe's record equalling 18 1/2 - 9 1/2 victory in The 2006 Ryder Cup came from all quarters, including one from President Barroso of the European Commission.

On behalf of the European Commission, President Barroso would like to congratulate very warmly the European Team for having won, for the third consecutive time, The 2006 Ryder Cup, the famous golf tournament whose final took place in Ireland.

We are all proud of this achievement, just the same way as the European Team golf players for whom it was magical to win this tournament.

Europe showed once again on this occasion that it could build upon real values, like sport and team spirit.
