Flew out of the Ryder Cup qualification blocks by winning the 2007 Mercedes-Benz Championship, the second counting event towards qualification for Nick Faldo's European Team. Followed that victory–the second European Tour win of his career after the 2002 Irish Open–with top ten finishes in the World Match Play Championship and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship before the beginning of the 2008 season. Those results contributed to a career high finish of eighth on the 2007 Order of Merit. Steadily added crucial points throughout 2008, with five top ten finishes to his name, including third places in the Open de España and the Open de France ALSTOM which ensured a priceless haul of euros towards his total on the European Ryder Cup Points List. Finished off his qualifying campaign in some style, finishing tied six and tied tenth in the last two European counting events for Valhalla, The KLM Open and the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles. Making his Ryder Cup debut, Hansen is only the second Dane to compete in The Ryder Cup after Thomas Björn.
