RYDER CUP EXPERIENCEDebut
Justin Rose is making his Ryder Cup debut this year, but the Englishman–who burst onto the golfing scene when winning the Silver Medal as the leading amateur in The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in 1998–has already shown he is more than capable of handling the big occasion. Nowhere was that more evident than at The European Tour's season-ending Volvo Masters last year. Needing a first place finish to guarantee top spot on the Order of Merit and thereby win the coveted Harry Vardon Trophy, Rose played like a true champion, winning the title after a thrilling sudden-death play-off with Simon Dyson and Søren Kjeldsen. That victory, coupled with strong showings at the WGC–CA Championship and the US PGA Championship and a tied fifth place finish at the European Team's last qualifying event–the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles–ensured automatic qualification for Team Europe. A Member of the PGA Tour as well as The European Tour, Rose has performed well in America this season, with his best performance coming at the Memorial Tournament presented by Morgan Stanley where he finished second.
