Practice underway for Europe

Europe's Ryder Cup players took to the fairways of Valhalla Golf Club for their first practice round since landing in Louisville, with Captain Nick Faldo deciding to send them out in groups of three rather than pairings.

Faldo and Vice Captain José Maria Olazábal gave the Team a rousing pep talk on the first tee at 7.45am on Tuesday before the Team posed for the traditional photographs.

It was then time for the golf to begin with Faldo sending out Sergio Garcia, Søren Hansen and Lee Westwood in the first grouping, with three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington joined by fellow Irishman Graeme McDowell and Swede Henrik Stenson.

Captain's picks Paul Casey and Ian Poulter were joined by Robert Karlsson, while Ryder Cup rookies Justin Rose and Oliver Wilson got their first taste of Valhalla alongside Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenéz.

"Today is all about observation, learning the course," said Faldo as he sent his Team out on the course.
