At a Glance: Match 16
U.S. analysis: Both players are getting new partners. Mickelson played with Anthony Kim for the first three days, and Mahan played with Justin Leonard (winning 2-1/2 points). Who knows if the Mickelson-Mahan pairing would have existed had Mickelson and Kim not blown a 4 up lead in Foursomes on Saturday morning. Their eventual loss certainly made it easier for Captain Paul Azinger to break up the duo.
Europe analysis: Stenson (along with partner Oliver Wilson) comes off a stunning win over Mickelson-Kim, which has to give him confidence going into this match. Karlsson didn't fare well with Padraig Harrington, earning just a half-point in two matches, but perhaps being paired with his fellow Swede will prompt a change in fortunes.
Notes: Mickelson will be playing with his 11th different Ryder Cup partner ... Neither Stenson nor Karlsson played in Friday's Four-Ball competition, and neither has ever won a Four-Ball match at the Ryder Cup.
Outlook: Mickelson and Mahan must be disappointed that they couldn't carry over the momentum with their previous partners into Saturday morning's Foursomes. But perhaps a new face is just the change each one needs. Meanwhile, a Stenson-Karlsson pairing seems like an exciting pair (especially if you live in Sweden) and could produce some fireworks.
Prediction: Halve
