Cardiff Airport Begins The Ryder Cup Focus
Cardiff Airport in the Vale of Glamorgan will be the focus of the golfing world on Monday September 27 when the United States Team arrive there to begin the week of their defence of The Ryder Cup.
United States Captain Corey Pavin and his Team, along with officials of the PGA of America, will travel on a 777 aircraft which departs Hartsfield Airport in Atlanta, Georgia at 10.00pm on Sunday September 26 to arrive at Cardiff at 11.00am the following morning.
The American party will be welcomed to Wales by European Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie as both men look ahead to the 38th staging of the biennial contest at The Celtic Manor Resort, City of Newport, Wales, from October 1-3, 2010, where the US Team will defend the trophy they won at Valhalla Golf Club in 2008.
Also part of the welcoming group on the tarmac will be the First Minister of Wales, the Rt. Hon. Carwyn Jones AM; Ryder Cup Director Richard Hills; PGA Chairman Phil Weaver, and Ryder Cup Wales Chairman John Jermine.
Richard Hills said: “We are very much looking forward to welcoming Corey Pavin, his United States Ryder Cup Team, and everyone from the PGA of America to Wales and we thank everyone at Cardiff Airport for the hard work and preparation they have put in to ensure a smooth arrival.”

The airport has experience of handling travel for large scale events and will work with all partner organisations to ensure the team’s arrival is as seamless as possible.”
During The 2010 Ryder Cup Cardiff Airport is proud to welcome the US team and expects both increased traffic on scheduled airline services as well as a number of chartered flights throughout the event.
The Airport situated in the Vale of Glamorgan is ten miles from the M4 and just 33 miles from The Celtic Manor Resort. A rail link connects Rhoose Cardiff International Airport station to Cardiff Central and Bridgend, as well as there being two bus services operating between the airport and Cardiff Central station. Taxi services and car hire are also available from outside the main terminal building.
