Monty thanks the fans
Colin Montgomerie, the Captain, and The European Team would like to join Ryder Cup Europe in thanking all spectators who attended The 2010 Ryder Cup on Friday.
Montgomerie took time out from his duties to express his feelings for the fans. He said: “I feel sorry, really sorry for the fans who turned up in their tens of thousands yesterday. They pay a lot of money and unfortunately the appalling weather conditions out there made it very tough for them. They are our 13th man and they showed their support from the first tee despite the torrential rain. I hope they saw some great golf later on in the day.”
Ryder Cup Europe appreciates the patience and consideration shown by spectators yesterday when 36.6 mm of rain fell in the space of 22 hours through to 3.30 pm on Friday. The average monthly rainfall for September/October is 91 mm so the equivalent of 40 per cent of the average monthly rainfall fell in less than 24 hours. Ryder Cup Europe has confirmed that, under the Terms and Conditions of The 2010 Ryder Cup, ticket holders are not entitled to a refund.
We have requested that all Friday ticket holders retain their tickets. An announcement will be made on www.rydercup.com following the conclusion of The 2010 Ryder Cup. All holders of Friday tickets will be advised of special ticketing opportunities to be made available for European Tour competitions in 2011 including The Celtic Manor Wales Open.
