Pavin eager to get his team out

United States Captain Corey is eager to get back out on the golf course after heavy rain caused play to be suspended on the first day of The 2010 Ryder Cup.

Play will resume at 17.00 after a delay of over seven hours.

All four fourball groups teed off in the wet conditions but after two hours play was stopped, as the course became waterlogged. At that time, the USA were down in three matches and up in one, with Bubba Watson and Jeff Overton two up against Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald.

Pavin said: “Obviously we are down in three and up in one, but it’s so early it’s hard to tell. We were just getting John Paramor [European Tour Chief Referee] on the walky-talky, and we had a little three way conversation.

“Colin and I both deferred to John to let him make the call. As soon as we deferred, he called play, because he thought it was unplayable.

“It's going to be a week where we start at dawn and finish at dusk and sometimes that happens. We’ll just keep going and hopefully we can get the whole Ryder Cup in, every match, that’s the ultimate goal, so we will get a proper result, so to speak.

“I haven’t really had to say much to the Team (during the break).  They are all relaxed and just sitting around just talking and waiting.  Some are taking little naps and just relaxing.

“The guys are just going to go back out there and try to win some holes and get up in their matches and hopefully turn those around.”

The Americans were forced to ditch their team waterproof gear as it was not keeping out the rain, instead having to go to the merchandise shop in the Tented Village to kit themselves out in more effective ProQuip clothing.

“We were disappointed with the performance of the waterproofs and we just fixed it,” he said. They were not doing what we wanted them to do so we went out and bought some more waterproofs.”
