Back to Course Overview
No. 1
A very challenging opener. Go left and a cluster of deep bunkers at the elbow of the left hand dog-leg threaten to swallow the ball. Go right, play safe, and you face a tougher approach with the entry to the green guarded by another two bunkers. Also right of the green is a swale which the ball can run down well below the putting surface, plus there is another steep swale at the back. The first hole brings pressure so if you can find the fairway then that will give you some semblance of order and a chance to hit the green. A par is a great score on the first hole of a Ryder Cup. Trust me!
