This hole can be extended to 666 yards - making it one of the longest in championship golf. The biggest hitters will, nonetheless, still harbour hopes of reaching the green in two and, with this in mind, two substantial bunkers have been placed to the right of the fairway to snare the wayward drive. An accurate tee shot will still leave a second shot in excess of 300 yards and three new traps that are smaller but much deeper lie in wait to catch the timid approach some 140 yards from the green, where the fairway dog-legs slightly to the left. The large bunker that guards the right-hand approach to the green has also received a severe face lift to offer greater protection to pin positions on that side of the putting surface.
