Match Result

Team USA wins 3 & 2

Match Overview

Ross Fisher might have been the most exuberant member of the European Ryder Cup team all week at Celtic Manor. His enthusiasm never waned as he spent much of his match exhorting the crowd to yell and scream, and his early play gave them plenty of reason to cheer him on in his match against Jeff Overton, the most celebratory player on the U.S. side.  Fisher jumped to an early lead with two birdies in the first three holes.  Overton, in front of a strong contingent of his own fans, clawed back to even the match by the 10th hole, and then Fisher bogeys on holes 12, 13 and 14 gave Overton an insurmountable advantage.  Fisher's bogey on hole No. 16 ended the match and the battle of excitable Ryder Cup rookies went to the U.S. side, 3 & 2.

Key Moment

Fisher, who had been a rock of consistency most of the week, missed an 8-footer for par on the par-4 12th hole, and that started a streak of four bogeys in five holes.  Fisher, who had led early by two holes, was eliminated once his par putts stopped dropping.

Team USA Quote

"This whole event has been awesome.  I can't describe the emotional feelings you get, especially with all of the crowd, the fans, that come out and support the event.  It's a dream come true to be a part of and win or lose, it's all about the sport, and you know, the way that everything is -- the way everything is handled and everything, you know, all the way down the line.  It's just really cool to see and to be a part of, it's just a great game and this is one of the best sporting events probably in the world."

Team Europe Quote

"So it's been a life changing week for me. I felt like I've stepped up and played pretty good. I was disappointed not to get a point today, but thankfully I had 11 guys backing me up, and especially that guy sitting right at the end of the table there, G Mac. You can't say anymore. Nerves of steel, absolutely fantastic. So it's been a life changing week for me. I felt like I've stepped up and played pretty good.
