Match Result

Match Overview

Molinari won the opening hole with a par after a great up and down from the right greenside bunker to take a 1-up lead. Molinari conceded the second hole to Fowler after struggling with a chip shot in front of the green to bring the match back to all square. Molinari recaptured the lead by making an 8-foot birdie on No. 3 to get back to 1-up. Fowler's birdie from 10 feet on No. 5 squared the match. Molinari holed a 25-foot birdie putt at the eighth hole to go 1-up. A 5-foot birdie putt by Molinari on No. 10 allowed him to extend his lead to 2-up. At the par-5 11th, Molinari went 3-up after making a 12-foot birdie putt. Molinari continues to pour it on Fowler. After a great approach on No. 12, Molinari gets another birdie and takes a 4-up lead. Fowler won the 13th hole with a par to cut his deficit to 3-down. After Molinari missed a par putt on the 16th hole, he conceded a birdie putt to Fowler who went 2-down with two to play. Fowler nailed a clutch 12-foot birdie putt on No. 17 to go 1-down with one to play. Miraculously, Fowler holed a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole to fight back from 4-down and earn a halve.

Key Moment

Fowler birdied his last four holes -- one of which, the 15th, was halved -- in remarkable fashion, highlighted by a 15-footer on the last hole to earn an amazing halve and keep alive the Americans' hopes.

Team USA Quote

"It's awesome. It was a position where it was nothing to lose. Had to go for it. Edoardo played great all day. He hit a lot of great shots and you know forced me to make some putts at the end."
