One of the longest hitters on the PGA Tour, Watson also possesses a wonderful short game. A tough competitor, the left-hander picked up his first career Tour victory this year at the Travelers Championship and during an emotional news conference afterward, dedicated the win to his father Gerry, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in October 2009, and wife Angie, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in December 2009 but was later determined to be an enlarged pituitary gland. Proving his comeback ability, Watson overcame a six-stroke deficit in the final round and then beat Scott Verplank and Corey Pavin with a par on the second playoff hole to win the Travelers Championship, and rallied to finish tied for first at the PGA Championship, where he lost a three-hole aggregate playoff to Germany's Martin Kaymer. A self-taught player who learned the game by hitting wiffle balls around his house, Watson uses the same putter he has had since he took up the game as a youngster.
