A boy band sensation, Olympic greats, tennis legends, Hollywood superstars and more - the 2016 Celebrity Match added a little touch of glitz and glamour to The Ryder Cup build-up on Tuesday at Hazeltine National.
In the second edition of the Celebrity Match, which was first staged at Gleneagles two years ago, eight European celebs took on eight of the finest American luminaries in a nine-hole team scramble challenge.
Massive galleries and packed grandstands? Check. Booming entrance music and a tip-top atmosphere? Check. Hilarious moments, bits of great (and not so great) golf, and a thoroughly entertaining afternoon? Check, check, check.
Leading the line for the European side were One Direction star Niall Horan and former British and Irish Lions rugby captain Paul O'Connell, who halved their match against film-star Bill Murray and music legend Huey Lewis.
Football greats Andriy Schevchenko and Alessandro Del Piero were taken down four up by American actors Kurt Russell and Rob Riggle.
Spanish celebrity chef Jose Andres and television producer Nigel Lythgoe were beaten four up by ice hockey player Jeremy Roenick and American celebrity chef Todd English, while, in the highest-profile tie of the day, 23-time Olympic gold medal winning swimmer Michael Phelps partnered 11-time surfing world champ Kelly Slater to a six up mauling over tennis legend Martina Navratilova and British Olympian John Regis.
The final score, then? 14-0 to the Americans. Let's hope that's not a precursor to the main event.
