Sept. 22-28, 2025 Bethpage Black Course, Farmingdale, NY

Adrian Otaegui has his sights set on a place on the European Ryder Cup team after triumphing at the Belgian Knockout, while this week’s BMW PGA Championship marks the beginning of the increased points value.

The Spaniard defeated Benjamin Hebert in the final of the innovative competition, which was played over 90 holes, with 36 holes of stroke play on Thursday and Friday, followed by six rounds of nine-hole knockout stroke play to determine a winner.

Otaegui now sits in 23rd position on the European Points List following his win in Belgium, which came courtesy of a hat-trick of birdies towards the end of the final against Frenchman Hebert.

The 25 year old is the highest placed mover on the European Points List this week, jumping five places from 28th. Just one month ago – before the Volvo China Open – Otaegui was 54th on the list, but a second-place finish in Beijing catapulted him up the rankings.

There are no changes to the automatic qualification places, which comprises the top four players from the European Points List and the World Points List.

Increased qualification points will be on offer this week with a rise of 50 per cent, meaning the points value will be 1.5. Players on the bubble such as Ian Poulter, Matt Fitzpatrick and Paul Casey are all in action this week, amongst others, and could put the pressure on the likes of Noren, Fisher and Hatton at the first Rolex Series event of the year.
