Ryder Cup, Jimmy Walker

Red-hot Jimmy Walker close to sewing up a Ryder Cup spot

After his sizzling start to the 2014 season, Jimmy Walker hasn't sewn up a spot on the United States Ryder Cup team just yet.

But he's awfully close.

Think about that for a moment. Most of us haven't even played our first round of the new year, and Walker is almost ready to be fitted for his Ryder Cup uniform.

After earning exactly zero wins in his first 187 PGA Tour events, Walker captured the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am on Sunday for his third win in his last eight starts. In the last 20 years, only Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and David Duval have won so often so early in a season.

Along with his victory, Walker earned 1,188 Ryder Cup points to solidify his position atop the Team USA Points Standings with 3,605.833.

How close is Walker to punching his ticket to Gleneagles? Consider that in 2012 the ninth-ranked player on the list, Hunter Mahan, finished with 4,082.228 points.
