14484The two Englishmen were first to tee up. Poulter found the fairway with his drive and was matched by Rose. For the U.S., rookies Stricker and Curtis both started with solid drives. Poulter found the middle of the green, but Rose's wayward approach shot found the left rough. Curtis came up short, finding the bunker, to put pressure on Stricker but the American's ball nestled next to Poulter's. Rose chipped onto the green to about 10 feet, but Curtis' bunker shot flew past the pin and back off the green. He then putted to two feet. Rose missed his par putt and Poulter's birdie putt narrowly missed. Stricker's 14-foot birdie putt was even closer, glancing the left edge of the cup. Poulter made his 3-footer to halve the hole.

65004Both Americans struggled with their drives, Curtis landing close to Floyds Fork, having to take a drop and Stricker finding the rough, forcing him to play out sideways, while Poulter and Rose split the fairway. Poulter chipped to the heart of the green and Rose was just off to the left. Poulter had two putts from 40 feet to win the hole. He was just short with his first attempt, but holed from three feet after Rose holed his par putt to put Europe 1-up.
