200 days to go

March 12, 2018 12:00 UTC

With just 200 days to go until the first tee shot of The 2018 Ryder Cup, Paul Casey made a big move in the rankings with his first victory since 2014. The Englishman won the Valspar Championship in Florida to move to tenth place in the World Points List.

Casey, whose last victory had come at the 2014 KLM Open, will be hoping to do enough to qualify for his fourth Ryder Cup team and make his first appearance in European blue since 2008.

Sergio Garcia joins Justin Rose in the top five in the World Points List, after both enjoyed strong performances in Florida. Garcia finished two back from Casey on Sunday, with Rose a further shot behind. The duo have made 12 Ryder Cup appearances for Europe between them and will hope their weekend performances are a sign of things to come ahead of September’s showdown at Le Golf National.

Matt Wallace made strong strides in the European Points List following his win at the Hero Indian Open. The 25 year old claimed his second European Tour title at DLF Golf and Country Club on Sunday, beating compatriot Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston in a play-off. Victory in New Delhi means he moves to 16th in the European Points List.

The top four from the respective Points Lists at the conclusion of the Made in Denmark at the start of September will be assured of their place in Thomas Bjørn’s 12-man team. Bjørn will then select four wildcard picks to complete his team.
