Mayakoba Golf Classic - Final Round

Sunday, Aaron Wise matched the low round of the day with a bogey-free 8-under par, 63 to soar to the top of the leaderboard during the final round of the Mayakoba Golf Classic presented by UNIFIN. While his strong showing wasn’t enough to catch champion Viktor Hovland, it did earn him a significant move in the U.S. Ryder Cup point standings. Wise’s runner-up finish is his best on Tour since his victory in 2018 at the AT&T Byron Nelson and it moved him up 36 spots in the U.S. Ryder Cup point standings to No. 44. He has two other top 10s on Tour since the qualifying period began in 2019. Wise joined the Tour in 2018 and is looking to qualify for his first U.S. Ryder Cup team.

Tom Hoge, who finished just behind Hovland and Wise in a share of third at Mayakoba, jumped 14 spots to No. 36 in the U.S. Ryder Cup point standings. His top 5 finish is his best of the season and he has three additional top 10s on Tour since the qualifying period began for the U.S. squad. Hoge, like Wise, is also looking to qualify for his first U.S. Ryder Cup team.

The top six in the U.S. Ryder Cup point standings remain unchanged following the Mayakoba Golf Classic presented by UNIFIN. Dustin Johnson holds a significant lead in the No. 1 spot in the standings, ahead of Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele. Due to COVID-19, the remaining six players on the team will be selected by Captain Steve Stricker. Click here for the complete current standings.
