One of sport’s greatest trophies, The Ryder Cup, will visit Germany later this month as part of the Ryder Cup Trophy Tour.

The famous Trophy will be put on public display from 11th- 15th May at BMW Welt in Munich, as part of a roadshow aimed at building further fan excitement ahead of September’s event at Hazeltine, USA.

The Ryder Cup will be exhibited as part of the golf event week “Driven by Passion” at the BMW Welt from 11th- 18th May.

“As a long-term partner of the Ryder Cup, we are delighted to be able to display the iconic Trophy at our headquarters in Munich,” said Christian Masanz, Head of BMW Golfsport Marketing. “To view the Ryder Cup and to get a commemorative photo with the Trophy is one of the highlights of our event week, with which we intend to inspire golfers, whether already playing or new to the game.”

The Ryder Cup Trophy Tour was officially launched by European Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke in Northern Ireland last month, with the Trophy visiting Portrush and Belfast.

Germany is one of a select group of European countries to stage The Ryder Cup Trophy Tour, with the roadshow also visiting France and Italy, the next two European countries to host the contest in 2018 and 2022 respectively.

German golf fans will have the opportunity to be photographed alongside The Ryder Cup when it visits BMW Welt in Munich – and pledge their support to the European Team through social media.

The 41st Ryder Cup itself takes place at Hazeltine, Minnesota from 30th September to 2nd October. In recognition of this year’s host nation and, working in conjunction with the PGA of America, The Ryder Cup Trophy Tour will also extend to a selection of cities across the US later in the year.

Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup Director, said: “We are delighted that The Ryder Cup Trophy Tour will visit Munich and give German golf fans the opportunity to get closer to one of the great prizes in world sport.

“With this year’s Ryder Cup just months away, it is important to get European fans behind us and we hope The Ryder Cup Trophy Tour will generate significant support from the people of Munich.”
