Sept. 22-28, 2025 Bethpage Black Course, Farmingdale, NY

Champion Golfer of the Year Henrik Stenson cemented his place on the European Ryder Cup Team as his imperious victory at Royal Troon moved him into third on the European points list.

The 40 year old’s first Major Championship win, aided by the lowest total to par in Open Championship history, catapulted him to the top of the World Points List, 44 points ahead of Rory McIlroy, and into third place in the European Points List.

The Swede moved ahead of Chris Wood in the world points standings and is set to make his fourth appearance in the biennial contest against the United States this September. Stenson famously holed the winning putt at The 2006 Ryder Cup at The K Club on his debut and during the most recent edition in 2014 he formed an unbeaten partnership with Justin Rose, the pair winning all three of their matches including a 5&4 victory in the Thursday morning foursomes against Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson.

There has been a big shake up in the rankings this week with all of the top eight moving in one direction or another. McIlroy now sits top of the European list as a result of his tied fifth position at The Open, his second top ten in this year’s Majors, 124,922 points ahead of Masters Champion Danny Willett in second.  Wood completes the top four on the European list.

Andy Sullivan produced yet another fine performance in finishing joint 12th at The Open but moves from fourth on the European Points List over to the World Points List in eighth position behind Sergio Garcia, the seven-time Ryder Cup star taking a share of fifth place at Royal Troon, Justin Rose and Rafa Cabrera-Bello. Sullivan has now finished in the top 25 of his last six events on The European Tour.

A big mover this week was Søren Kjeldsen who is now only just outside of the team after a fine top ten performance at The Open. Tyrell Hatton is mounting a late challenge as he was another big mover, closing the gap to 45 points behind Matthew Fitzpatrick who occupies the final spot in the provisional team.
