Transport advice for fans attending The 2018 Ryder Cup

With just one week to go until the start of The 2018 Ryder Cup and with more than 270,000 people set to descend upon Le Golf National, fans are being urged to plan their journeys in advance to make the most of this unique sporting occasion.

Final preparations are underway to welcome fans from 90 different countries to Le Golf National, with 43 per cent of tickets sold going to French fans. Extensive work has taken place to provide the best possible fan experience, including the installation of the biggest first tee grandstand in the history of The Ryder Cup, which has 6,900 seats, with 18 giant screens located around the venue.

Ryder Cup Europe, the event organiser, has also implemented a comprehensive transport plan to ensure fans enjoy the quickest possible journey to and from Le Golf National. The key focus of this is fans being encouraged to use the extensive network of public transport in operation.

Edward Kitson, Ryder Cup Operations Director, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming fans from around the world to Le Golf National, for what promises to be an enthralling contest with one of the best spectator experiences we’ve offered at a Ryder Cup.

“To ensure fans have the smoothest possible journey to this major sporting event, we are reminding them to plan their journey in advance and use the Park and Ride and public transport systems, as there are strict traffic controls in the area around Le Golf National, with no parking on or near the course, and no pedestrian access.”

Fans should allow plenty of time for journeys to and from the Ryder Cup Bus Terminals as bag searches, security scanning and ticket checks will be taking place upon arrival. All transport information is available at www.rydercup.com/transport (or fr.rydercup.com/transport) with some key points below:

  • Roads in the immediate vicinity of the venue will be closed and police-enforced parking restrictions will be in place. Therefore, if you are travelling by car, you must go to the Park and Ride (PR). You will not be able to park on the roads near the golf course.
  • We strongly recommend purchasing a ticket for one of our dedicated Park and Ride sites, where we operate free shuttle buses to Le Golf National. There is still space available at PR2 in Orsay or PR4 in Louveciennes. PR3 in Versailles is now sold out. You can buy your e-ticket on the following link: tickets.rydercup.com. Simply purchase, download from your Ryder Cup tickets account and print and display in your windscreen when arriving at your destination.
  • There is strictly no pedestrian access direct to Le Golf National. Entry points are at Ryder Cup Bus Terminals to the West and East of the course which can only be reached by using a free shuttle bus from official Park and Ride sites and official train stations of Saint Quentin and Massy.
  • If you prefer to travel by train, we operate a free shuttle bus service from Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (SQY) and Massy-Palaiseau stations. If you did not purchase a Ryder Cup Travel Card when they were on sale, you can still purchase regular transport tickets on the day. Further information on purchasing train tickets is available on our website .
  • If you are travelling by bicycle or motorbike, there is dedicated parking provided in PR1 in Toussus-le-Noble (a few kilometres from Le Golf National) free of charge. You can then take the free shuttle bus to the East Bus Terminal for entry.
  • If you are arriving by taxi (or being dropped off by a friend/family member) there is drop-off/pick-up zone in PR1 Toussus (on RD938 / Route de Villiers le Bâclé) and PR3 Versailles (Allée des Marronniers).
  • You should allow at least one hour of time for journeys to and from the Ryder Bus Terminals as bag searches, security scanning and ticket checks will be taking place upon your arrival.

As with any major event, volume of traffic is likely to be high in the areas surrounding the venue so plan ahead. Visit www.rydercup.com/transport for all information.
