Undefeated: Tommy Fleetwood and Jon Rahm Extend Individual Foursomes Records

By Ryder Cup Digital On September 27, 2025 9:32 UTC

Tommy Fleetwood and Jon Rahm extended their own individual undefeated records in Foursomes following both Foursomes sessions at the 2025 Ryder Cup.

They did their parts separately to help Europe win the Friday morning session in an away Ryder Cup for the first time since 2004 3-1: Rahm claimed the first point for Team Europe alongside Tyrrell Hatton over Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas 4&3 before Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy added the second with a convincing 5&4 victory over Collin Morikawa and Harris English.

With Europe also winning the Four-Balls session on Friday afternoon, the same pairings teed up once again on Saturday morning - with very similar results.

Fleetwood and McIlroy joined the top five all-time list of successful Foursomes pairings in Ryder Cup history when they defeated Morikawa and English for a second time this week, this time 3&2. Less than an hour later, Rahm and Hatton joined the very same list when they claimed their second Foursomes win of the week, defeating Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele 3&2.

It sees both players extend their own career Foursomes records in Ryder Cups to 6-0-0, with both pairs of Fleetwood and McIlroy, and Rahm and Hatton, extending their own Foursomes pairings records to 4-0-0 together..

Here, we take a closer look at how they have achieved it.

Tommy Fleetwood’s Foursomes Record: 6-0-0

Fleetwood has become a pivotal member of Team Europe, which began with a headline-stealing debut as he and Francesco Molinari became the first European pairing in history to win all four of their matches in a Ryder Cup at Le Golf National in 2018.

His debut included two foursomes victories: A convincing 5&4 victory over the very successful Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth on Friday afternoon, and another 5&4 triumph over the powerhouse duo of Bryson DeChambeau and Tiger Woods on Saturday afternoon. That year he lost to Tony Finau in singles, but still cemented himself in the record books.

Surprisingly, Fleetwood sat in both foursomes sessions in 2021, but returned with a lot more experience as he extended his unbeaten record with two wins alongside Rory McIlroy at Marco Simone in 2023.

They completed a 2&1 victory over Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay on Friday, before Fleetwood got the better of Thomas and Spieth for a second time with a 2&1 win on Saturday. He and Nicolai Højgaard lost their four-balls match on Saturday afternoon, but Fleetwood rallied for his first full singles point in a Ryder Cup with a 3&1 victory over Rickie Fowler, the point which guaranteed victory for his side.

On Friday morning at Bethpage Black, Fleetwood once again partnered McIlroy, this time against Collin Morikawa and Harris English in the third match of the opening session. Up from the very first hole, Fleetwood ensured he has still never made it to the 18th hole in a Ryder Cup foursomes match as he and McIlroy closed out the Americans 5&3 to gain a first away point for the Englishman in this format.

On Saturday morning it was a rematch of Friday, and much the same result. This time though it was the U.S. Team that broke ground with a win at the birdie at the opening hole, but Europe quickly fought back with birdies at two and three to turn the match around. The pair were 4 UP after two more back to back birdies at seven and eight, and while they lost 14 and 15, victory was secured a birdie at the 16th to win 3&2.

Jon Rahm’s Foursomes Record: 6-0-0

Like Fleetwood, Rahm began his Ryder Cup career in Paris in 2018, but it wasn’t until the 2021 contest at Whistling Straits that he played in a foursomes match.

While he had earned a record of 1-2-0 at Le Golf National, by the time he arrived in Whistling Straits he was far more accomplished, having won the U.S. Open earlier that year. He went on to become Europe’s top points scorer during that loss, and it was a fiery pairing with fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia that saw him achieve his first success in foursomes.

In the morning session on Friday they defeated Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth 3&1, and went on to defeat Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger by the same scoreline the following morning. That year he played all five sessions, losing only to Scottie Scheffler in singles in a contest where he otherwise went 4-0-0.

This year, it was no surprise to see Rahm and Hatton together again in this format. Out in the first match of the 45th Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, the pair went 1 Down on the first hole but were quick to settle in. After tying the next five holes, Rahm and Hatton won both the seventh and eighth holes to go up in their match, and stayed ahead until victory with birdies to win 12 and 13. The match ended 4&3 with, and saw Rahm help earn the first point of the 2025 Ryder Cup.

With a repeat of their match at Rome, Rahm and Hatton managed to best Cantlay and Schauffele a second time. Winning the first two holes, but there was a little more ebb and flow as the U.S. Team managed to win the fifth and seventh holes to get the match back to Tied. At the very next hole Rahm produced a miraculous chip-in at the eighth, before going 2 UP with a birdie at 12. The match then ended on 16 as Hatton converted a brilliant approach from Rahm, ensuring that pairing is now 4-0-0 in the last two Ryder Cups.
