The four-time Major Champion heads to Paris with three Ryder Cup wins already under his belt, and he will be looking to add a fourth after being part of the European team who were beaten by the United States at Hazeltine National two years ago.

Since his debut in 2010, McIlroy has evolved into one his continent’s most experienced and accomplished Ryder Cup players. Despite Europe losing in 2016, he forged a dynamic partnership with rookie Thomas Pieters – the pair had a 100 per cent record in three matches. Overall the Northern Irishman has played in 19 matches, winning nine, halving four and losing six, with an overall points total of 11.

McIlroy is well-placed to add to that tally following a string of consistently impressive results this year.

Following an injury-hit end to 2017, McIlroy began 2018 brightly by claiming tied third in Abu Dhabi and then going head to head with Haotong Li on the final day in Dubai a week later, eventually finishing runner-up.

His best display of the qualifying campaign came in the United States, where McIlroy fired a memorable closing 64 to triumph at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard.

Since that victory, the 28 year old has come close to winning again in the Masters Tournament, the BMW PGA Championship and The Open Championship, and those results in some of golf’s biggest events have helped him secure his spot in Thomas Bjørn’s team via the World Points List.

Quote: “You can definitely feel the Ryder Cup build-up, especially now that we have our eight qualifiers confirmed. I think we have the makings of a very strong Team and I know that Thomas and his Vice-Captains will think long and hard about the best four players to add to our group on Wednesday. I think Thomas is going to be a great captain. I chatted with him on the phone twice last week, just talking about a few things. He's keeping everyone in the loop.”
