Sergio Garcia enters this year’s Ryder Cup as the most experienced member of Team Europe.

Looking at his credentials, it’s easy to see why Thomas Bjørn selected the 2017 Masters Tournament winner as one of his Captain’s Picks.

The Spaniard made his debut at Brookline in 1999 and has missed just one Ryder Cup since. With eight appearances under the banner of Team Europe, he has played at three more Ryder Cups than the next most-experienced golfer on the 12-man team – Ian Poulter.

The two points he secured at The 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine saw him join the late, great Seve Ballesteros on 22½ points earned for Europe, joint fifth on the all-time standings. He is just three points away from overtaking Sir Nick Faldo (25) as the most successful European in Ryder Cup history.

An imperious partner on the golf course, he has nine victories from 15 foursomes matches and seven victories from 14 fourball matches. He has won as many points in foursomes matches as Ballesteros, and as many in fourballs as Faldo.

Not only is he a safe pair of hands on the golf course, with five rookies on the team this year, his experience will pay dividends as he helps to guide the likes of Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood and fellow countryman Jon Rahm through their first Ryder Cups.

Qoute: "I don't have to explain how much The Ryder Cup means to me, and to be able to be a part of another Ryder Cup Team is amazing, under Thomas Björn.  I'm very proud, obviously very thankful for being picked.  My goal was to make it on my own, and not have to put Thomas in that position, but, you know, I'm thrilled about it.  I'm excited to help my team as much as I can, to make sure we have the best possibility of winning The Ryder Cup back, and that's the goal.  That's been the main goal throughout this year and a half or so and I'm really excited to get there and get the show going."
