Jon Rahm put on a scintillating display to defend his Mutuactivos Open de España title and jump to the top of the Ryder Cup Points List, last week.

The Spaniard finished five shots ahead of fellow countryman Rafa Cabrera-Bello at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, but it was a day where Rahm was in complete control moving seven strokes ahead of his nearest competitor three holes into his final round.

The win puts Rahm, who made his Ryder Cup debut at Le Golf National in 2018, atop the Ryder Cup Points List on 1,240 points, with BMW PGA Championship winner Danny Willett hot on his heels with 1,215.39 points.

Cabrera-Bello (26.56) made the biggest move, jumping to the top of the World Points List after a fine display in his home Open.

Making his debut away from home in 2016, Cabrera-Bello went unbeaten for the week picking up 2.5 points for Team Europe.

However, this wouldn’t be enough as Europe slumped to a 17-11 defeat to the USA.

Victor Perez (915.00) and Matthew Southgate (612.00) round up the automatic places on the Ryder Cup Points List, with Paul Waring (21.41), Joakim Lagergren (21.02), Richie Ramsay (18.16) and Oliver Farr (13.74) making up the remaining spots on the World Points List.

This week the European Tour heads to Italy for the Italian Open, a Rolex Series Event, where numerous previous Ryder Cup players will feature.
