Thousands of golf fans gathered to see the Ryder Cup in Munich last week, as the Ryder Cup Trophy Tour reached Germany.
The Trophy Tour - which was officially launched by European captain Darren Clarke in Northern Ireland last month – spent a week in the Bavarian capital as part of the golf event week “Driven by Passion” at the BMW Welt from May 11-18.
As well as being exhibited at the headquarters of BMW - a long-term partner of the Ryder Cup – the trophy also visited other famous sights in the city, including the New Town Hall and Olympic Park.
Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup Director, said: “The Ryder Cup Trophy Tour has got off to great excitement and we were thrilled to see the enthusiasm from German golf fans.
“With this year’s Ryder Cup just months away, it is important to get European fans behind us and we’re grateful for the support shown from the people of Munich, who came out in their thousands to see the trophy.”
Germany is one of a select group of European countries to stage the Ryder Cup Trophy Tour over the coming months, with the roadshow next visiting France and Italy, the next two European countries to host the contest in 2018 and 2022 respectively.
The 41st Ryder Cup itself takes place at Hazeltine, Minnesota from September 30 - October 2. In recognition of this year’s host nation and, working in conjunction with the PGA of America, the Trophy Tour will also extend to a selection of cities across the US later in the year.
