HOW THE RYDER CUP TEAMS ARE MADE: The United States roster is based on points compiled by the PGA of America. The top eight players in the points standings at the conclusion of the PGA Championship at Bellerive automatically made the team. They are: Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Bubba Watson. U.S. Captain Jim Furyk added four players as captain's picks: Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.

The leading four players on the European Points List made the European roster, followed by the top four players from the World Points List. Those players are: Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari, Alex Noren, Thorbjorn Olesen, Jon Rahm and Justin Rose.  Captain Thomas Bjorn completed his team with four captain's picks: Paul Casey, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson.

HOW TO WIN THE RYDER CUP: To win the Ryder Cup outright, a team must collect 14 1/2 of the 28 points available. In the case of a 14-14 draw, the winning team from the previous Ryder Cup retains the trophy. The United States, the 2016 champion, would retain the trophy in the event of a tie at Le Golf National.
