Bernd Wiesberger’s magnificent form this year continued as he picked up a third victory of the 2019 season at the Italian Open, a Rolex Series Event on the European Tour.
In fact, Wiesberger’s victory was his second Rolex Series victory of the year and currently leads the European Tour’s Race to Dubai.
A bogey free 65 saw the Austrian golfer finish in top spot, one stroke ahead of 2016 Ryder Cup debutant Matthew Fitzpatrick who was leading by three strokes heading into the final round.
A wrist injury ruled Wiesberger out of much of the 2018 season, as well all but ending his hopes of making The 2018 Ryder Cup European team, but it seems a lengthy spell off has inspired the 34-year-old.
The win moves him into second on the Ryder Cup Points List on 1,253.72 points, with Danny Willett still leading the way on 1,298.69 points.
Mutuactivos Open de España winner Jon Rahm (1,240.00) and Alfred Dunhill Links Champion Victor Perez (937.63) round up the Ryder Cup Points List.
Although a disappointing finish for Fitzpatrick, the Englishman jumped to the top of the World Points List with 30.44 points.
Fellow Englishmen Matthew Southgate (30.00) and Paul Waring (23.48) also remain in the automatic places, as does 2016 Ryder Cup debutant Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren.
