Workday Stat of the Day: Europe's record run
As the leaderboard became engulfed in blue on Saturday morning, Europe made some serious history.
A superb run of results, starting with Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari's fourballs win over Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed on Friday morning, culminated in Europe winning eight matches in a row.
After whitewashing the United States in the afternoon foursomes, Thomas Bjørn's side took that momentum into the Saturday fourballs to take an 8-3 lead. Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy claimed a 2&1 win over Tony Finau and Brooks Koepka to kickstart the day, with Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton adding to Europe's delight before Fleetwood and Molinari made it eight consecutive wins,
Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth ended Europe's superb run in the final fourballs match, but the record books will look favourably upon that unstoppable charge. While José María Olazábal's team won seven in a row at the 2012 edition, the 1987 team won six in a row in one day in 1987. Bjørn's team assumed control with one of the finest runs in the history of this tournament.
