Just 50 days remain until The 2018 Ryder Cup begins at Le Golf National.
Thomas Bjørn and Jim Furyk are both in Missouri for this week's US PGA Championship as their preparation to lead the respective sides in France continues to build. The final Major Championship of the season offers the last opportunity to earn big points, with the conclusion to automatic qualification edging ever nearer.
After this week, there are just three European Tour events remaining that offer points towards qualification – the Nordea Masters, the D+D REAL Czech Masters and the Made in Denmark tournament, which is being held at Bjørn’s home course of Silkeborg Ry GC.
The winner of this week’s event will earn 2.45 million points on the European Points list and 150 points on the World Points list. While Tommy Fleetwood currently occupies the final spot in the European Points List with 3.6 million points, Paul Casey sits in the final spot of the World Points List with 167.05 points. This means that almost every European player in the field has the chance to move into an automatic qualifying position.
The following players who can qualify via the European Points list with a win are: Ian Poulter, Andy Sullivan, Alex Levy, Sergio Garcia, Shane Lowry, Chris Wood, Alexander Björk, Matt Wallace, Paul Dunne, Henrik Stenson, Jorge Campillo, Rafa Cabrera Bello, Ross Fisher, Matt Fitzpatrick, Eddie Pepperell, Russell Knox, Thorbjørn Olesen, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Alex Noren.
Every European Tour member in the field can qualify via the World Points List with a win.
On Monday, the eight automatic qualifiers for the United States side will be confirmed.
