Meet the adorable baby named for the Ryder Cup

By T.J. Auclair On May 17, 2018 4:39 UTC

This is a story about one of the cutest babies you will ever see who also happens to have a fantastic name.

The story begins in January when we received an email from a man named Philip Hoff. He wanted to know if he could use the Ryder Cup shield logo.

Hoff wrote that he and his wife Amber were expecting a baby boy. They planned to name him “Ryder” because they are huge fans of the Ryder Cup. The only thing missing for their baby boy was a Ryder Cup onesie. These Ryder Cup onesieswere not yet for sale, so Philip wanted to make his own using the Ryder Cup logo.

You might assume this was all Philip’s doing, but it wasn’t. Here is how Amber explains it:

“It was actually my idea,” she told RyderCup.com. "I always love watching the Ryder Cup. I was thinking about golf-related names one day and 'Ryder' popped in my head and I was instantly in love. I mentioned it to Philip and we both knew right away it was the one.”

Philip’s email made its way to Fanatics, who help run the PGA Shop. They were more than happy to send baby Ryder three different Ryder Cup onesies that were just about to hit the market.

And, as you can see below, Ryder is loving his gear:

The Hoffs are very much looking forward to the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National Paris, which they'll watch at home with Ryder.

"It just happens to fall on my birthday and just about Ryder's half birthday,” Amber said. “Can't wait to see the U.S. represent in Paris and bring home another win!"

A win would be extra special for all Ryder Cup USA fans. The Americans -- defending Ryder Cup champions -- are hoping to win on foreign soil for the first time since 1993 at the Belfry.

Could baby Ryder be the lucky charm?
