Road to Rome 2022: Open Day at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club
More than 700 people have attended an Open Day hosted by the Italian Golf Federation at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club – the future site of The Ryder Cup – as part of the fifth stage of The Road to Rome 2022.
During the fun-filled day, families and children from all over the country came to get a glimpse of The Ryder Cup trophy, compete in a Pro-Am and take part in free golf lessons at the future Ryder Cup site.
The well-attended Open Day began with a Pro-Am, with teams comprising of one professional and four amateurs, which featured former AC Milan football star Giuseppe Incocciati and renowned Italian actors Kaspar Capparoni and Davide Devenuto.
As part of the drive to introduce more Italians to golf, the Italian Golf Federation also set up a ‘health path’ at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, where all participants who came to try the sport were also given access to take a free dermatological and venous screenings.
Following the conclusion of the successful Open Day, the Italian Golf federation’s President, Franco Chimenti, said: “This project, that the Italian Golf Federation works with in full harmony with Lavinia Biagiotti and the whole team of Marco Simone, is a very special one, and I want to thank everyone involved. This is the first of a long series of events that will be held in the future home of The Ryder Cup.
“I’d like to thank representatives of the Municipality of Rome and Guidonia Montecelio and all the other authorities who have honoured us with their presence here today, which has strengthened the collaborative atmosphere that is being created ahead of the Europe against USA contest.
"Looking ahead to The Ryder Cup, we have brought the Italian Open back to Rome in 2019 and we will continue to try and boost the territory as much as we can.”
