Saturday Fourball Pairings Announced

By Josh Luckhurst On September 28, 2018 5:32 UTC

There will be a case of déjà vu in Saturday's fourballs as Team Europe aim to extend their lead against the United States on the second day of the 42nd Ryder Cup in Paris.

European Captain Thomas Bjørn has stayed loyal with two pairs that endured a disappointing 3-1 deficit on Friday morning before Europe masterminded a historic first ever foursomes whitewash to earn a 5-3 advantage.

Tommy Fleetwood will partner Francesco Molinari for the third time after the duo recorded two wins from two matches on day one, and will face Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed once again in the third match of the Saturday fourballs.

The Englishman and Italian were the only success story of the opening morning as they defeated Woods and Reed with a 3 and 1 victory in the anchor match to earn Europe's first point of this year's competition.

United States Captain Jim Furyk has selected the same four pairs which played in Friday's fourballs, with Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas switching to the anchor match in place of Woods and Reed.

McIlory, who failed to register a birdie on Friday morning, will open up alongside Spain's most successful Ryder Cup player Sergio Garcia against Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau.

Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton are the other survival duo for Europe as they take on World Number One Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler in the second match.

Ian Poulter, who engineered a superb comeback 4 and 2 victory with McIlroy in the afternoon, will anchor the European side alongside rookie Jon Rahm in an exciting clash against Spieth and Thomas.
