Sept. 22-28, 2025 Bethpage Black Course, Farmingdale, NY

Seven months ago, Scottie Scheffler found himself on a video conference, having just been named one of Captain Steve Stricker’s 2020 U.S. Team Captain Picks. The untested rookie was still looking for his first PGA TOUR victory, but showed promise in the eyes of the Captain and his fellow teammates – a promise he proved three weeks later going 2-0-1 at Whistling Straits while taking down world No. 1 Jon Rahm in Sunday singles in the process.

Now, with a green jacket in hand, Captain Stricker’s pick is looking downright prophetic.

Continuing his 2022 hot streak, Scheffler cemented his place as World No. 1, besting the field by three strokes for a decisive win at the game’s most hallowed grounds. The Longhorn alum became just the third player in the last 40 years to win at Augusta before the age of 26, joining former Ryder Cup USA stars Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods.

The victory, Scheffler’s fourth in six starts, propels him to the top spot and a commanding lead in the 2023 U.S. Ryder Cup Team Rankings. Previous No. 1 Kevin Kisner drops into the second seed, with five-time Ryder Cup stalwart Dustin Johnson staying solid in third position. The largest leaps of the week belong to a pair of 2020 Ryder Cup team members, with Collin Morikawa (+ 11 spots) and Justin Thomas (+ 14) moving to fifth and seventh, respectively.

U.S. Team Captain Zach Johnson first announced the 2023 qualifying structure in late February. All U.S. players will have the opportunity to earn points at select 2022 events, including major championships, while regular PGA Tour events will begin awarding Ryder Cup points in January 2023. Points are awarded as follows:

2022

- 1 point per $1,000 earned at the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and The Open

- 1 point per $2,000 earned at THE PLAYERS Championship, WGC-Dell Technologies Championship, WGC-HSBC Championship

2023

- 1 point per $1,000 earned at regular PGA Tour events beginning January 1, including the Zurich Classic and WGC events, through the BMW Championship (August 20)

- 2 points per $1,000 earned for winner of the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and The Open

- 1.5 points per $1,000 earned for all others that make the cut at the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and The Open

- No points available at PGA Tour opposite-field events

Points qualification will conclude immediately after the second FedEx Cup Play-Off event (BMW Championship) on August 20, 2023, with the top six players on the points list securing spots on the U.S. Team.
