Three of the eight Ryder Cup USA Team automatic qualifying positions have been clinched with just two events remaining for players to earn points in advance of the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National in Paris in September.

Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed – the top three golfers in the standings, respectively, led by Koepka's 8,981.472 points – officially clinched spots on the team following the RBC Canadian Open. The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and PGA Championship at Bellerive are the two final tournaments for players to earn Ryder Cup USA points.

If the Ryder Cup USA automatic qualifiers were determined today, Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Webb Simpson would also earn auto-bids as the players currently ranked No. 4 through No. 8 in the standings.

However, a large number of golfers still have a mathematical chance to finish in the top eight.

If the same golfer wins both the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and PGA Championship, he would earn roughly 5,400 points, using last year's purse totals to project the purses for the two events this year.

The gap between Simpson at No. 8 and Bryson DeChambeau at No. 9 is roughly 40 points but a number of golfers have the opportunity to jump into the top eight with a strong August. Watson, who is currently in fifth in the standings, has just over 5,500 points, meaning a golfer who gets hot next month could almost match Watson's current point total in the span of two weeks.

Seven golfers – DeCheambeau, Phil Mickelson, Xander Schauffele, Matt Kuchar, Kevin Kisner, Tony Finau and Brian Harman – are within roughly 1,000 points of Simpson and the No. 8 spot in the standings.
