Brooks Koepka became just the second player in the last 66 years to win back-to-back U.S. Opens on Sunday. The 28 year old jumped from No. 5 to No. 1 in the Ryder Cup USA rankings for his efforts.

Koepka survived an extremely tough course to win the major for the second straight year. He edged fellow Americans Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed and Tony Finau.

Before Koepka, Curtis Strange was the last player to win consecutive U.S. Opens – he did it in 1988 and 1989.

Johnson was looking great after the first two rounds of the U.S. Open, shooting below 70 on Thursday and Friday. But a Saturday 77 likely cost him his second U.S. Open title. Regardless, DJ finished third overall and jumped from No. 3 to No. 2 in the Ryder Cup USA rankings. He won the FedEx St. Jude Classic the weekend before.

A few other notable developments: Finau, Xander Schauffele and Daniel Berger all helped themselves this weekend. Finau and Schauffele jumped to 13th and 14th, respectively, while Berger (47th to 30th) made the biggest move of any American player.

U.S. players will continue to gain points in 2018 at every non-opposite PGA Tour event, WGC and major through the 100th PGA Championship at Bellerive, concluding on August 12, 2018.

At that time, Captain Jim Furyk will have his first eight players -- automatic qualifiers.

The four remaining slots on the U.S. Team will be Captain's Selections. Three selections will be announced by Captain Jim Furyk following the Dell Technologies Championship scheduled to be completed on Sept. 3, 2018, and the final selection will be announced after the BMW Championship, which is slated to be completed on Sept. 9, 2018.
