Ryder Cup Europe will once again highlight its commitment to a sustainable global sports event, today signing an environmental charter ahead of The 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National.

Ryder Cup Europe, through the support of the Fédération Française de Golf, the World Wildlife Fund France and the Ministry of Sports France, became the 22nd signatory committed to ensuring the delivery of a responsible environmental policy ahead of the biennial contest between Europe and the United States of America from September 28-30, 2018.

Jean Lou Charon, President of Fédération Française de Golf and Pascal Grizot, President of the France 2018 Ryder Cup Committee, welcomed Laura Flessel, the French Minister of Sports and Pascam Canfin, General Director of World Wildlife Fund France, to present the charter to Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup Director at Le Golf National - the host venue of The 2018 Ryder Cup.

Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup Director, said: “We are delighted that the tradition of The Ryder Cup working with environmental initiatives continues in 2018 in France.

“Ryder Cup Europe have been committed to this important area since 1997 in Valderrama and we are extremely pleased to recognise the value of delivering a sustainable global sports event with the support of the French Minister of Sports Madame Laure Flessel and the Fédération Française de Golf.”

Ryder Cup Europe are actively engaging with sustainability methods, with the charter focusing on waste recycling, water and energy control, as well as equal opportunity employment, through partnerships, practical guidance and credible standard and certification programmes.

The charter process is a continuation of the Fédération Française de Golf’s exemplary knowledge and protection of biodiversity at Le Golf National since collaborating with the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle.

The drama, tension, camaraderie and sportsmanship of one of the world’s greatest sporting contests returns to France next September, when 24 of the finest players from Europe and the USA go head-to-head in the 42nd Ryder Cup at Le Golf National.
