Eugenio Chacarra wins third title of season to top European Team Rankings

Eugenio Chacarra secured his third win of the year on the DP World Tour on a marathon Sunday at the DP World India Championship to rise to the top of both the European Team Rankings and the Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World.

The 26-year-old, who was recently part of the group of players included in the practice trip to Adare Manor in September, further established himself as a contender for the 2027 contest with a two-stroke victory over Daniel Hillier.

The Spaniard, who had already claimed victories at the KLM Open and DS Automobiles 83° Open d’Italia earlier in June, completed 25 holes on the final day at Delhi Golf Club. He carded a third-round 63 to open up a five-shot lead before closing with a final-round 70 to secure the title.

With victory Chacarra, who started the week in India fourth on the European Team Rankings behind recent winners Joe Dean, Matt Fitzpatrick and Adrian Meronk, vaulted from 305.75 points to 555.75, and now leads the way at the top of the standings by 161.44 points.

Chacarra said: "It's great, after all the hard work.

"I came close in the last couple of weeks and I wanted to get one quickly to get up on the Rankings and I played really good.

"The last round was tough. It's really tiring, waking up three days in a row at 4am. My body wasn't there, I didn't feel good. It's hard to have a big lead, you don't really want to push but you want to with guys making birdies.

"I'm really proud of my short game and how I grinded and stayed patient.

"I know what I'm capable of. I was one of the best amateurs in the world and I wanted to be one of the best professional players in the world. I work really hard and I've got a great team surrounding me."

Speaking about his Ryder Cup prospects ahead of next year's showpiece, Chacarra added: "I told Luke (Donald, European Captain) back in the day I want to be in that team by not just a pick. I want to get one of those six spots so that's one of the goals we have as a team. I'm working really hard for it.

"I just want to keep getting better and keep winning."
