European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald was named Captain of the Year at the annual Sporting Club Awards in London on Thursday.
Donald led Europe to an historic victory against the United States in New York in September, becoming the first Captain to win home and away Ryder Cups since Tony Jacklin in 1985 and 1987.
The 48 year old accepted the award via video link during the ceremony which was held at the Royal Lancaster hotel in London.
He said: “I’m very grateful to accept this award which I would like to dedicate to my 12 players, vice captains and support staff. We are very proud of what we achieved together at Bethpage and it means a lot for that achievement to be recognised.”
It was the second time Donald has been honoured at the Sporting Club Awards, having also won the Captain of the Year award in 2023 when he led Europe to victory in Rome.
Donald’s award came on the same day that Team Europe player Rory McIlroy was shortlisted for the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The winner of that will be decided via a public vote during the live show which takes place on Thursday December 18 from 7pm to 9pm (UK time).
