Homa at Home in California – Wins 2023 Farmers Insurance Open

There’s no place like home, and for Max Homa that adage is paying dividends.

The California native picked up his sixth PGA TOUR victory this week at the Farmers Insurance Open, marking his fourth career win in his home state, and moving up to No. 5 in the U.S. Ryder Cup Rankings in the process – his highest showing yet.

“When I work, when I practice, when I play tournaments, I -- this is what I love. I love what today was, it was incredible,” Homa said.

Homa started the day five off the lead of Sam Ryder (who moves up 70 spots this week to 38^th), before piling on five birdies in the first 11 holes to close the gap. He would finish two ahead of the field, including past Ryder Cup members Keegan Bradley and Collin Morikawa, in second and third, respectively.

“Patience has been something I've leaned on when I'm behind and knowing just how darn hard it is to win out here,” Homa said. “There's just a lot of great players and the golf courses are very hard. These final rounds are marathons.”

Bradley’s finish earned him a bump in the Rankings from 11^th to 7^th, while 2020 Ryder Cupper Xander Schauffele picked up a spot as well, moving from 12^th to 11^th. Scottie Scheffler continues to lead the U.S. Rankings, up more than 1,607 points over Rankings No. 2 Will Zalatoris.

U.S. Team Captain Zach Johnson first announced the 2023 qualifying structure last year. Points in 2023 are awarded as follows:

- 1 point per $1,000 earned at regular PGA Tour events beginning January 1, including the Zurich Classic and WGC events, through the BMW Championship (August 20)

- 2 points per $1,000 earned for winner of the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and The Open

- 1.5 points per $1,000 earned for all others that make the cut at the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and The Open

- No points available at PGA Tour opposite-field events

Points qualification will conclude immediately after the second FedEx Cup Play-Off event (BMW Championship) on August 20, 2023, with the top six eligible players on the points list securing spots on the U.S. Team.

The six remaining slots on the U.S. Team will be Captain’s Selections and will be announced by Johnson following the 2023 Tour Championship.
