This week’s Monday Memories celebrates the first victory as Team Europe, as Tony Jacklin’s men triumphed 16.5 – 11.5 against Lee Trevino’s Team USA.

The winning moment fell to Sam Torrance as he duly holed a putt from around 20 feet to defeat Andy North on the final hole.

This was the first U.S. loss since 1957, which was their only loss in the previous 50 years.

Scenes of sheer joy and jubilation were broadcast around Europe as Jacklin’s men created history.
