With his third-place finish in the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship, Rafael Cabrera-Bello vaulted into one of the nine qualifying slots for Ryder Cup Europe as it prepares for its Ryder Cup defense in Chaska, Minn., later this fall. Cabrera-Bello moved to seventh place on the European Points List and sixth on the World Points List, knocking Thorbjorn Olesen out of a guaranteed spot.
The top four positions on the European Points List -- which receive automatic Ryder Cup invitations after the Made in Denmark Tournament near the end of August -- remained Rory McIlroy, Danny Willett, Andy Sullivan and Matthew Fitzpatrick. The next five positions from the World Points List to would fill out the remainder of the automatic qualifiers include No. 1 Henrik Stenson, No. 4 Justin Rose, No. 6 Cabrera-Bello, fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia -- currently listed as eighth -- and No. 9 Thomas Pieters.
European Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke will choose the remaining three members of the squad sometime during the last week of August.
