Scottie Scheffler Continues Run of Dominance with Win at The 2025 Open Championship
There’s no doubt about it — the best player in the world will be wearing Red, White, and Blue at the 2025 Ryder Cup.
Scottie Scheffler continued his dominant run with his second major championship of the year — and fourth of his career — securing a four-shot victory at the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
Scheffler, who has already automatically qualified for Captain Keegan Bradley's U.S. Team, has been on an unprecedented tear since making his Ryder Cup debut in 2021.
Since joining the team as one of Steve Stricker's captain’s picks, Scheffler has won four major championships, collected 20 total victories, and firmly established himself as the clear No. 1 player in the world.
The final Open Championship leaderboard featured four Americans near the top, including 2021 U.S. Ryder Cup team member Harris English (13-under, 2nd), Chris Gotterup (12-under, 3rd), and 2023 team member Wyndham Clark (11-under, T-4th).
English finished runner-up to Scheffler in a major for the second time this season, having also tied for second at the PGA Championship in May. With his performance, he moved into the top six in the U.S. Team Rankings as he continues to push for an automatic qualifying spot at Bethpage Black.
The current top six in the latest U.S. Team Rankings are:
Scottie Scheffler (Q) (1st, 32,420.33 points))
Xander Schauffele (2nd – 13,383.85 points)
U.S. Open Champion J.J. Spaun (3rd – 12,478.91 points)
Russell Henley (4th – 11,623.82 points)
Bryson DeChambeau (5th – 10,774.98 points)
Harris English (6th, 10,385.65 points))
The top six players following the BMW Championship will automatically qualify for the 2025 Ryder Cup, with Captain Bradley selecting the remaining six members of the U.S. Team.
