YE Yang's Chip-In in 2009 PGA Championship

By Matt Craig On September 26, 2016 3:40 UTC

The fifth green at Hazeltine holds a peculiar yet significant place in golf history. This green is the last place where Tiger Woods held a lead in a major championship.

During the 2009 PGA Championship, this hole played as the 14th. Coming down the stretch, Tiger Woods held the lead over virtual unknown YE Yang. But Yang's chip-in from just off the front edge of the green gave him an eagle, erasing Woods' lead.

Amazingly, Yang held off Woods in the final few holes to win the tournament, giving Tiger his first ever defeat after leading through three rounds of a major championship.

Despite its placing as the fifth hole during this year's Ryder Cup, this green is a perfect setting for more golfing history.
