Frenchman Alexander Levy boosted his chances of a Ryder Cup debut in his home country after winning the Trophée Hassan II.

The 27 year old claimed his fifth European Tour title at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam by one shot as he held his nerve on the final stretch, with the victory lifting him into position ninth in the European Ryder Cup Points list.

Levy’s victory continues his strong start to 2018 following a seventh place finish at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA in January, before a fourth place result at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic a week later. In February he recorded a tied fourth finish at the NBO Oman Open ahead of his victory in Morocco, which he hopes will be a catalyst to making Thomas Bjørn’s European Team to take on the United States at Le Golf National in September

“For me, I played an amazing game. I'm so happy to win this trophy,” said Levy.

“It's a good win but I need to go back to work because we can see we have a lot of good players in Europe. So it will be tough to make The Ryder Cup team.”

Dutchman Joost Luiten maintained his quest for a Ryder Cup debut with a successive tied ninth finish. The 32 year old carded a four under par total to back up his tied ninth finish a month earlier in India to leave him six places behind Levy in 15th in the European Points list.

Andy Sullivan, who made his Ryder Cup debut in 2016, finished tied seventh after a final round of 70 but he has ground to make up in the race for an automatic qualification, with the Englishman currently 55th on the European Points List.

Tyrrell Hatton continues to lead the European Points list with Justin Rose, Jon Rahm and Ross Fisher making up the top four. On the World Points list, Rose takes top spot with Rahm moving into second and Hatton taking third place with Rory McIlroy in fourth.

The top four players on both points lists automatically qualify for a place on captain Thomas Bjørn’s 12-man team, with the Dane permitted to choose a further four wildcards.

Attention now switches to the Volvo China Open this week with Levy and Paul Dunne trying to promote their Ryder Cup hopes, while 2010 Ryder Cup winner Edoardo Molinari and 2012 Ryder Cup victor Nicolas Colsaerts also in the field.
