Monday Memories: Spaniards rally

By Josh Carr On June 11, 2018 3:16 UTC

The Saturday morning foursomes anchor match at the 2016 Ryder Cup saw one of the event’s most memorable rallies from Spaniards Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Sergio Garcia.

The pair looked to be heading to a heavy defeat at the hands of Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth, as the American duo dominated the opening 12 holes with a fine show of golf.

Finding themselves four down with just six holes to play, and the Americans looking comfortable with their lead, nobody expected such an impressive comeback from the European pair.

Winning holes 13, 15 and 16 threw the momentum right into the favour of the Europeans, before Cabrera-Bello holed his birdie putt from the fringe just moments after Spieth had missed his birdie opportunity by millimetres.

Garcia would then hole a pressure packed par putt on the last green to make sure the spoils were shared and gained half a point for his team in the process.
